The Ship That Never Sank
Is there enough evidence to prove that the Titanic disaster actually occurred in 1912? Theorists have questioned whether the ship at the bottom of the North Atlantic is actually the RMS Titanic. There was even a book written about the sinking of the Titanic 14 years before the Titanic sunk. Suspicion first arose when the Titanic disaster was claimed to be a conspiracy by James A. Fenton, otherwise known as "Paddy the Pig." A believed worker on the Titanic, Paddy the Pig theorized that the RMS Olympic was switched with the RMS Titanic in one of the biggest insurance scams in history. He argued that it made little sense; little to no effort was made to save the sinking ship. Paddy the Pig claimed that the iceberg may not have even been struck, that there was a bunker fire beneath the deck that had been ablaze for hours. The wreck of the ship shows an outwardly pushed area of the plating, not making sense to the striking of the iceberg. This supports Paddy the Pig's theory of the bunker fire.
The Titanic was built in a shipyard next to its almost identical sister ship, the RMS Olympic. The Olympic was ordered to be built by J.P. Morgan in 1907. In 1911, the Olympic suffered a tragic collision with another ship during one of its voyages. The ship could be repaired, but the White Star Line refused to cover the insurance and repair of the ship due to the damage. The ship was repaired using propellers from the Titanic in the shipyard. Statements claim that the Titanic's voyage in April 1912 was not what it seemed. It is stated that the ships were switched; the RMS Olympic setting sail in place of the RMS Titanic. This theory deems even more suspicious for the fact that the Titanic was not being allowed to set sail until after the Olympic was up and running again. This idea is supported in that the switch was carried out for the purpose of regaining insurance for the Olympic. It was believed that if the Titanic sank, money could be given back to the Olympic.
Questions ensue in the lack of clarity of evidence. Why didn't any distress calls go out until 35 minutes after the collision? Why wasn't the first lifeboat launched until 1 hour and 25 minutes after the striking of the iceberg? Coincidentally enough, the sixteen watertight compartments below the deck of the ship were stricken perfectly for doom. The ship could have survived if two of the compartments had flooded, however, five of them were sliced by the iceberg, just enough to bring the ship to its fate. Could all of these factors have been intentional? Because J.P. Morgan was the man behind the Olympic, all of this could be true due to his great power.
During exploration of the wreck, the plating that was pushed outward was found to be a coincidence of the ship's striking of the bottom of the ocean, disproving it as evidence for the bunker fire theory. In later years, Paddy the Pig was not found to be on the crew list of the ship, potentially meaning he was not paid for his job. Could his proposal of the Titanic conspiracy be a plan of revenge?
